At RELI Group, our internship program gives opportunities year-round for students to begin their professional careers and get involved with real, mission-driven work.
To showcase one of these experiences, we have spoken to a current intern on the team about their experience and how they secured this opportunity. Tasnim Kashem is an Applied AI & Data Lifecycle Intern with the Center of Excellence (COE) here at RELI, being directly managed by Jason Balser, Senior Director of AI & Data Strategy.
Background & Entry
What initially attracted you to applying for an internship at RELI Group, and how does your role as an AI Intern align with your academic background or career goals?
I was initially attracted to applying for an internship at RELI Group because of the flexibility it offers to explore and research topics that genuinely interest me, while also allowing me to work remotely. This structure has made it possible for me to balance my academic responsibilities while gaining experience in a professional environment.
My role as an AI Intern aligns closely with both my academic background and long-term career goals. I am interested in pursuing a future career in data analysis or data engineering, with a particular focus on the healthcare industry. Working at RELI has given me valuable insight into how AI technologies are designed and implemented to improve healthcare documentation and data workflows. This experience has reinforced my interest in using data and AI to help transform the healthcare industry into a more efficient, data-driven system.
Internship Responsibilities
What are your main responsibilities as an intern? Can you share about a project or task you’ve worked on that gave you hands-on experience?
So far, my main responsibilities have focused on onboarding and gaining a strong understanding of RELI’s approach to AI and its key initiatives. I’ve spent time familiarizing myself with how AI is applied across projects and what resources we have available.
One of the hands-on tasks I’ve worked on involves organizing internal documentation and transforming longer technical guides into shorter, more targeted artifacts. This has allowed me to engage directly with AI-related content while thinking critically about how to communicate complex topics clearly.
I’ve also begun exploring ways to strengthen RELI’s partnership with Databricks by identifying opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiency. This has given me exposure to how emerging technologies are integrated into real-world workflows and how strategic partnerships can enhance AI capabilities.
Skills Developed
What skills have you developed or strengthened the most during your internship?
As this is my first corporate experience, I’ve become more familiar with tools within the Microsoft ecosystem, which has helped me better understand how large organizations collaborate and manage documentation. Beyond technical skills, I’ve significantly developed my time management, organization and communication.
With guidance from Jason, I’ve learned how to create and maintain an effective work schedule that allows me to balance my internship responsibilities alongside my academic commitments. While juggling both has been challenging at times, it has made me more disciplined and intentional with how I plan my time. I’ve also strengthened my communication skills by collaborating with team members and asking questions.
Opportunities & Support
What opportunities have helped you grow professionally? How has RELI supported your development?
Throughout my internship, I’ve felt extremely supported at every stage, from the initial interviewing and hiring process to orientation and onboarding. These early experiences helped set clear expectations and made the transition into my role smooth and approachable.
One of the most impactful parts of my experience has been the consistent support from leadership, especially Jason, who has made a strong effort to include me in meetings and ongoing conversations. Even in a remote environment, I’ve felt informed, connected and part of the team. I’m also given clear tasks with defined steps and deadlines, which has helped me build confidence and work more independently. Communication has been prompt and supportive, creating an environment that is very encouraging.
RELI has also supported my development by providing comprehensive internal resources, such as the AI Foundations course, which helped me build a strong understanding of the company’s approach to AI and its applications. Having access to these structured learning materials meant I never felt lost coming into the role.
Advice
What advice would you give to students who are interested in pursuing an internship with RELI?
My main advice for students interested in pursuing an internship with RELI is to explore your interests beyond academics. Engaging in personal projects, research or extracurricular learning helps you better understand what kind of work you truly enjoy and what areas within your field excite you. When your interests align with your role, the work feels more meaningful and enjoyable, which makes the internship experience even more rewarding.
For applicants, one practical piece of advice is to always answer your phone calls, even if the number is unfamiliar. Recruiters often reach out from unknown numbers and answering that call could be the first step toward a great opportunity. Staying responsive and open during the application process can make a big difference.
At RELI, we are committed to providing an environment where interns are supported, challenged and empowered to grow. If you are a current undergraduate or graduate student living in a designated HUBZone and are excited about the opportunity to contribute to mission-driven work while developing your skills, we encourage you to explore our year-round internship opportunities.
